Breaking Barriers: 1st PES Women’s Cup Lights Up Guwahati with Grassroots Football Talent

The city of Guwahati witnessed a historic step for women’s football in Northeast India as Prithivi Event & Sports successfully hosted the 1st PES Women’s Cup on 6th September 2025 at Arena 28, Beltola. Designed as much more than a competition, the tournament stood out as a vibrant platform celebrating grassroots talent, regional diversity, and women’s empowerment through sport.

A Tournament of Unity and Opportunity

The 5v5 exposure tournament brought together three prominent clubs and five spirited teams:

Footballers from Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh came together under one banner, reflecting the cultural and sporting richness of the region. From seasoned academy players to emerging university footballers, the Cup gave every participant a powerful stage to showcase their skills in a competitive yet encouraging environment.

The format, built on small-sided 5v5 matches, was chosen with purpose. It created a dynamic space for quick decision-making, teamwork, and technical ability—key development areas for young footballers striving to make their mark.

More Than a Tournament

The PES Women’s Cup represented more than just matches—it stood for grassroots development, women’s empowerment, and the future of football in Northeast India. By engaging female footballers at the regional level, the Cup planted seeds of confidence, determination, and ambition in players who often lack structured exposure platforms.

What made the day particularly impactful was its inclusive nature. As spectators cheered and teams interacted, the atmosphere became a celebration of women’s sport, fostering unity across states and communities. Beyond goals and glory, the event pushed the larger message forward: women’s football in Northeast India is ready for takeoff.

Driving Grassroots Scouting and Development

Prithivi Event & Sports has already been deeply involved in player scouting and development across the remote regions of the Northeast. Their efforts go beyond organizing tournaments—they actively identify talented youngsters from underserved areas, nurture their skills, and provide them with opportunities to reach the next level.

By picking the right talent and connecting them to premier academies for advanced training, the organization ensures that promising players from villages and small towns do not remain unnoticed. This pipeline from grassroots to professional academies stands as a lifeline for many aspiring footballers, bridging the gap between raw potential and professional opportunity.

Words from the Organiser

Hrishiraj Talukdar, Founder Prithivi Event & Sports and Organiser of the PES Women’s Cup, summed up the vision behind the initiative:

“At Prithivi Event & Sports, we believe football is not just a game, but a gateway to opportunity. This tournament was born out of the need to provide young women footballers with a stage where their talent could shine. Our aim is to encourage more girls across the Northeast to take up the sport, dream bigger, and inspire the next generation of champions. Through our scouting and development initiatives, we are committed to taking deserving talent from the remotest corners of the region and connecting them with premier academies where they can truly grow. The energy, talent, and passion we saw today prove that the future of football here is in safe hands.”

Setting the Tone for the Future

The 1st PES Women’s Cup is only the beginning. By offering consistent exposure through competitive yet developmental tournaments and by continuing their scouting and development missions, Prithivi Event & Sports is carving a pathway for women footballers to rise from local grounds to bigger arenas.

As Guwahati turns the page on this memorable day, the legacy of the Cup will serve as a reminder that with the right support and vision, the dreams of young women footballers in the Northeast can—and will—find their place on the national and international stage.
